This material is designed for vehicle interior applications using our interiores de vehículos mediante nuestra tecnología patentada de patented decontamination technology, optimizing pre-treatment and formulation processes to ensure compatibility with injection molding. In addition, the project integrates sustainable solutions that promote circular economy in the automotive sector and support the latest European Commission guidelines on the use of recycled materials.
Key results:
New thermoplastic polymer formulations (PP and PE) with high post-consumer recycled content, free of contaminants and odors, suitable for automotive interiors, have been successfully developed.
Thanks to the patented decontamination technologywhich relies solely on steam and no chemicals or solvents, the materials meet the sector’s strict emission and odor standards.
The process has been successfully validated at pilot scale, demonstrating that even the most complex plastic waste can be transformed into high-value functional materials for the automotive industrybecoming high-value functional materials.
This strategy represents a significant step forward for circularity in the automotive sector, promoting the use of high-quality recycled materials and contributing to a more sustainable industry aligned with European legislation.

Project “LASER-BASED RECYCLING TECHNOLOGY TO CLOSING THE CYCLE IN THE FLEXIBLE PACKAGING INDUSTRY”
File number: 101114349
Amount: €74,940.80
Funded by the European Union. Call HORIZON-EIE-2022-SCALEUP-02.
Horizon Europe's European Innovation Ecosystems (EIE) are an initiative designed to foster an enabling environment for innovation at all levels, from the European Union to national, regional and local innovation ecosystems. This program aims to strengthen the connectivity and efficiency of innovation ecosystems to support business growth, encourage innovation and stimulate cooperation between innovation agents throughout Europe. In addition, it seeks to support social innovation, public sector innovation and business innovation, thus contributing to the development of more sustainable innovations and the creation of value from synergies with other financing programs, such as the ERDF.
As a consequence of Horizon Europe's EIE, the Women TechEU funded initiative arises. This initiative aims to address the gender gap in innovation by supporting women-led start-ups in the field of advanced technology in the initial and riskiest stages of their companies. This initiative is part of a series of EU measures to promote women innovators, alongside other initiatives such as the EU Prize for Women Innovators.
Project "RESEARCH ON DELAMINATION AND DECONTAMINATION PROCESSES OF MULTILAYER FILMS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF COLORIMETRIC SENSORS FOR SAFETY AND QUALITY OF THE PACKAGED PRODUCT"
File Number: INNCAD/2023/123
Amount: €107,119.40
Funded by the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI), under the framework of the strategic cooperation projects 2023, with financing from the European Union of the Valencian Community European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021-2027
The project aims to reduce the environmental impact of the food industry without compromising the safety of packaged products. It focuses on two main lines: improving the recycling of high shelf-life lid films, through delamination and decontamination processes for multilayer structures, and developing freshness sensors for shorter shelf-life packaging, capable of monitoring the product’s condition without electronics or external apps.
Key results:
Delamination and decontamination processes allowed the recovery and optimization of of rPET, rPA, and rPP, ensuring their reintroduction into food packaging and improving the recyclability of complex materials, thereby reducing dependence on virgin raw materials.
Food safety of rPP was validated through Challenge Tests and risk analysis, and its final properties were optimized through additives to ensure processability within the packaging production chain.
Colorimetric freshness sensors were validated at industrial scale for fermented vegetable products being able to detect gaseous compounds associated with microbial decomposition and provide a direct visual readingwithout the need for electronics or external apps.
The sensor was scaled up industrially and tested in products packaged by ALNUT, demonstrating good sensitivity, stability, and ease of integration into production lines.
These solutions have high commercial potential, are scalable to industrial production, and contribute to a more efficient circular economy by reducing non-recyclable waste while ensuring the safety and quality of packaged products.

This project was carried out in collaboration with ALNUT, Oscillum e ITENE.
Project "VALORIZATION OF BIOPLASTICS THROUGH ANAEROBIC CODIGESTION IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS"
File Number: INNEST/2023/357
Amount: €97,579.98
Funded by the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI), under the framework of the strategic cooperation projects 2023, with financing from the European Union of the Valencian Community European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021-2027
The project aims to valorize biodegradable plastic waste through anaerobic co-digestion with wastewater sludge, generating biogas as an energy vector and a digestate with potential agricultural use. The degradation of different plastics under anaerobic conditions was studied at both laboratory and pilot scales, evaluating how plastic additives affect the process and the quality of the digestate.
Key results:
A specific pretreatment was developed for PLA and PBAT, increasing biogas production by up to 55 % and 65 %, respectively.
The delamination of multilayer packaging was optimized, recovering plastic fractions with potential biodegradability.
Advances were made in monitoring microplastics in sludge, addressing one of the major current environmental challenges.
The solution was validated at pilot scale, and techno-economic analysis shows it can be implemented in existing WWTPs with virtually zero operating cost, thanks to the energy generated by the process.
This strategy represents a sustainable alternative to landfill or incineration of bioplastics, contributing to the circular economy and the efficient use of biodegradable plastic waste.
Collaboration: This project was carried out in collaboration with AIMPLAS, Global Omnium, Universitat de València and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
