ANDRÉS FULLANA
SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR
Andrés is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Alicante, member of the research group“ Engineering for the Circular Economy (E4CE)” at the University of Alicante (https://cvnet.cpd.ua.es/curriculum-breve/grp/es/ingenieria-para-la-economia-circular-(i4ce)/693).
Andrés carried out his PhD Thesis between 1997-2001 on pyrolysis/combustion of tyres and sewage sludge (http://hdl.handle.net/10045/3514). During the thesis, analyses of different pollutants produced during the incineration of these materials were carried out: PAHs, chlorophenols, chlorobenzodioxins, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins/furans (PCDD/F). After the thesis he did a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship with a Fulbright scholarship at the University of Dayton (USA). During this stay she studied the mechanisms of formation of chlorinated pollutants produced during waste incineration.
After returning to the Department of Chemical Engineering after his postdoctoral stay, his research, in addition to that related to the production of pollutants, has diversified into topics related to waste management and treatment: elimination of odours, application of iron nanoparticles in water treatment, energy use of agricultural waste and recycling of industrial waste. As a result of this research, Andrés is co-inventor on nine patents, eight of which are being commercialised nationally and internationally (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6883-3215).
In addition to his scientific and research profile, Andrés has a great interest in entrepreneurship. In the last 10 years he has participated in the creation of 4 technology-based companies arising from research results within the University of Alicante, including Fych Technologies. The first start-up co-founded by Andrés is called Olax22, S.L. and is dedicated to the management of industrial waste from the flexographic industry (http://www.olax22.es/), followed by the start-up Bioflytech which has become the leading company in Europe in the industrial production of insect protein for animal feed (https://bioflytech.com/). Andrés' latest (so far) business venture is the CALPECH company dedicated to the production of iron nanoparticles from organic waste from oil production (https://www.calpech.com/).
